Our Root Canal Philosophy
“Do I really need a root canal?”
Root canals have a bad reputation. In reality, a root canal isn’t particularly different from a big filling. With a root canal treatment, our goals are to:
- 5Relieve any pain you’re experiencing
- 5Remove decay and eliminate the source of infection
- 5Preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible
- 5Design a custom crown that will look great and function flawlessly
Cost of Care
“How much does an emergency root canal cost?”
The cost of Chicago root canal treatment depends on which tooth needs care, the severity of the infection, and whether a crown is needed afterward. Before starting treatment, we’ll explain your options, review your estimated cost, and help you understand what your insurance may cover.
At Dental Minds, we believe in clear pricing and no surprises. If you’re in pain, we’ll focus first on getting you comfortable, then walk you through the best long-term solution for protecting your tooth.
The Finishing Touch
“What crowns do you offer?”
As part of your root canal treatment, we’ll take a 3D scan of your tooth that will be used to craft the finished crown. Unlike old-fashioned goopy impressions, our scans are eco-friendly, can be crafted much more quickly, and produce better-looking and better-fitting crowns.
- Metal – Noted for its durability and precise fit
- Tooth-colored porcelain – Great for front teeth where a natural white color is desired
- Zirconia – Good balance of both aesthetics and durability
Symptoms to Watch For
“OUCH! This really hurts…”
Be aware of changes to how your teeth look and feel. A root canal treatment is necessary when bacteria invade the inner chamber of the tooth, leading to painful inflammation. Schedule an appointment if you notice:
- Extreme sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
- Inability to chew on one side of the mouth
- A deep, pulsating, and throbbing toothache
- Redness or swelling near a tooth

Root Canal FAQs
Do you offer same-day emergency root canals?
Yes. At Dental Minds, we offer same-day emergency root canal treatment in Chicago whenever possible. If you’re experiencing severe tooth pain, swelling, or sensitivity, call (312) 820-0330 to schedule an appointment.
Does a root canal hurt?
Root canals are designed to relieve pain, not cause it. We’ll make sure you’re fully numb before treatment and will focus on keeping your visit as comfortable as possible.
How do I know if I need a root canal?
You may need a root canal if you have a deep toothache, lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling near a tooth, or pain when chewing. The only way to know for sure is to have a dentist evaluate the tooth.
Will I need a crown after my root canal?
Many teeth need a crown after root canal treatment, especially molars and premolars. A crown helps protect the tooth from cracking and restores normal chewing function.
How much will insurance cover?
Coverage varies by plan. Many PPO dental insurance plans cover a portion of root canal treatment and crowns. Our front office team will check your benefits and provide an estimated out-of-pocket cost before treatment.
What if I don’t have dental insurance?
We offer flexible payment options, including a savings plan and cash prices for procedures. We’ll review your options clearly so you can make the right decision for your care.
